Diving

Dive requirements
The offshore Marine Parks are regulated by the government.  A minimum of 50 dives and an Advanced Open Water or equivalent certificate is necessary by law. Also the diving conditions are not for inexperienced divers.

All other areas  we highly recommend a minimum of 30 dives and an Advanced Open Water or equivalent certificate.

Divers must sign a standard a medical statement. If you have any health issues that may affect diving it would be a wise precaution to take a medical statement signed by a doctor.

All divers must take proof of dive insurance, log books and certification cards with them.

Insurance...please read carefully !

From 2008 your Yellow card does not cover Egypt
You must have adequate travel and diving Insurance for the trip.

The diving insurance must cover all medical, all neccessay recompression and air evacuation if needed. Your Yellow card does not cover this. We will ask for a copy of your insurance at the time of booking.

Red Sea Safaris takes no resposibility if your insurance is not adequate to cover everything. Please check your own policies carefully.

We can supply you with Gouda travel Insurance which also has full diving cover.

Diving
All divers must be certified and dive within their certification limits

No solo diving

No decompression diving unless technically trained

40m maximum for recreational divers ( this was changed this year from 30m )

No night diving is allowed at the Brothers Islands, Daedalus, Zabargad or Rocky Island.

Checkout dive
All divers, regardless of the level of certification or last date of dive, will need to perform a checkout dive.  This is when a dive guide from the boat will check to see that you are properly weighted, see that you can control your buoyancy, and you can also check your equipment

Number of dives
Usually 4 dives per day including a night dive. Sometimes it is not possible to dive at night due to conditions or local law (e.g Brothers)

The liveaboard will usually include 6 days diving. On the last day you may only dive 2 or 3 times depending on the time of your flight next day (we operate a 24 hour no fly rule).

General Safety
Divers should use dive computers on liveaboard. You will be doing a lot of diving during the week.If you don't have one you can always rent one

.

We recommend all divers carry a SMB ( surface marker buoy ) and know how to use it. If things turn bad or plans change underwater it means the boat crews have a good chance of locating you. Many of our boats have these onboard, but every diver should own one anyway.

Always do a safety stop for at least 3 minutes at 5m unless there is an emergency or conditions do not allow. There is plenty to see at the end of the dive

Always decend or ascend next to the reef or on a line never in the open water. Boats and Zodiacs can be a danger

Stay within the depth and time limits. The rules at home apply on holiday. It can be a long trip to the nearest re-compression chamber especially in the Marine parks, Deep south or Sudan

Listen to your Dive Guides and use there experience of local conditions. Just because the suns out and the water is clear doesn't mean the diving is always easy

Drink plenty of water to keep hydrated and don't have too many Beers the night before. Both of these can help bring on DCI.

We have a 24 hour no fly rule even if your computer says otherwise

Remember you are on a boat and at sea . Please observe the rules onboard as many are for your own safety.Your dive guides will brief you on these as well as the diving

Diving Accidents
Chambers are in Sharm El Sheikh, El Gouna, Hurghada, Safaga and Marsa Alam. You will need proof of insurance for recompression treatment; otherwise you could face a huge bill.

In the case of an accident the priority is to get the diver to the nearest chamber for treatment.

There is no helicopters available. In the northern Red Sea there is a fast rescue boat service operating. In the South or Marine parks it means moving the liveaboard to the nearest place the patient can transferred to a car and be driven to a chamber.

Equipment:

You will need a full set of diving equipment. Tank, weights and Belts are the only equipment provided by the boat. You will need a mask, fins and snorkel, BCD, regulator, wetsuit, dive computer.

The diving usually follows a multilevel profile so we highly recommend that you bring a computer. Some boats insist divers use a computer.

We recommend you take your own torch/lamp for night dives. SMBs are provided to all divers but if you have bring your own.

Equipment rental is available onboard the boats but, please give prior notice.

Tanks are steel 12l, 15l are available on request. Both international (A Clamp) and DIN.

On Royal Evolution and Blue O two boats, and MV Tala  we can provide cylinders for Inspirations as well stage tanks. Pumped oxygen up to 200 bar is also available.

Electicity
There are charging facilities available for lights and cameras, standard 220/240 volts. The sockets are continental 2 pin or 3 pin.

Marine life
Coral reefs are fragile so there are a few rules to help protect them :

No fishing in the National parks

No feeding of the fish

No taking of shells or corals

No touching the reef or it's marine life

Do not throw any refuse into the sea

Basically look, enjoy and leave it as you found it
